Steve Nicely, a professional trainer with over forty years experience in the police service dog field, and recognized expert of dog training in several state and federal courts now offers his of experience to the general public. “Nicely Trained Dog” was formed in May, 2006, after Steve returned to Austin Texas from Iraq where he served as a trainer with the Embassy Security Force Baghdad explosive detector dogs.
Before starting his own training business in Austin, Steve was the senior trainer for the world’s largest commercial police dog training facility located in Somerset Texas. There he trained and supervised the training of over 1000 working dogs with several hundred handlers from city to federal level, as well as international agencies. To include the first two dogs specifically trained for the United States Army’s elite “Delta Force.”
As a police K9 handler Steve was known nationally for having top of the line service dogs. Not only did his dogs perform well in street conditions they were also serious competitors in the police dog field. Steve and his dogs have won numerous awards at the regional, state, and national level. The award with the most significance is the Sportsmanship award given to Steve by the United States Police Canine Association at its national seminar and competition in 1985. As a police service dog instructor, Steve passed on his desire for excellence to the handlers he trained.
A “Nicely Trained Dog” is not only a dog that responds to your commands, but a process. It uses the motivations of your dog to teach it tasks as well as the pack order to maintain discipline.
